I found this on Lifehacker, and thought it was brilliant! I'm not sure if this applies anywhere that isn't the US, but apparently packing even just a cheap starter pistol that fires only blanks works!
They'd never live it down if a gun was lost there, security, etc, so they take more care of your luggage! Genius!
