My question to you all:
Is impossibility the only true impossibility?
It seems increasingly so these days...
Thoughts?

Paradox Saying its impossible for things to be impossible is contradictory, therefore surely the statement is invalid in which case it is possible to have an impossibility. If that makes sense.

Ahh, but that can only be true if backed up - can something be impossible? I honestly cannot find anything. Neither can a lot of people. If nothing is impossible, then impossibility must be impossible, in that "the impossible" does not truly exist.

the way i see it is that the second 'impossibility' in 'Is impossibility an impossibility', is a figtional 1, therefore saying that the question contradicts itself is invalid, becase it technically doesn't. but i can think of an impossibility, the french fighting a war to the end and not surrenderin

Would you say 'flapping your arms and flying' etc, is an impossible event? Without external apparatus etc? I know you can make up scenarios in which due to some strange, possibly unexplained, reason it is possible, but wouldnt that just be an unrealistic view towards it? Personally, i think some things are impossible, but that we actually believe certain things to be impossible when in actual fact they arn't; we are just underestimating ourselves. Chris, do you mean by fictional that it means it is non-existant rather than impossible? I see where you are coming from if thats the case

Not at all - I would say that that is entirely possible. Hard, very much so, but not impossible at all. I would shy away from "unrealistic" myself, preferring perhaps improbable.
I actually completely agree with part of that - that in saing possible things are impossible, we are underestimating myself, and also surely underestimating the Omniverse too...

I guess it really comes down to what you perceieve as impossible. I am probably the much more negative person when it comes down to this kind of thing, but others i would say are more 'optimistic'.
But by 'unrealistic' i mean the person who is interpreting the probability, not the actual probability itself.
Just to put a twist in the debate, do you think that because science does not know everything that it is 'impossible' to know the limitations?

I love stuff like this. Haven't got a clue, but it's inspirational to think of. ...My head hurts.
